ANOTHER FOR LEONARD COHEN

You helped him with his coat.
You handed him his shield.
He asked for seven feathers
To consecrate his boat.

Commentary:  The coat represents piety, the shield protects and is therefore an essential figure that appears whenever disease or natural disaster rules the day; the feather indicates the angelic, that state of being that connects the divine to the vital and the fallen, the boat is a kind of car that traverses the life-giving energies of water, so that here the vehicular prepares its transformation from a lesser mode to the sacred. Like all things in life, death is the shadow that attaches sorrow to joy. The banner waves in bright light beneath dark clouds. The above connects what is petty to what is vast, enduring, and at final peace.

SUNDAY

Someone rattles the gate –

How will I go down the hill without my dogs?
